Designed to separate whole blood into three blood components: red blood cells, platelets, and plasma through the process of centrifugation and extraction.

Capacity: 450ml primary bag and 2 satellite empty bags.
Triple blood bag is designed for collection of 450ml of whole blood. 450ml containing 63ml CPD solution and 2 satellite bags (400ml bag containing SAGM preservative and 400ml for 5-day platelet storage). The system includes a 16 G x 1.5” (1.60 x 38mm) needle, with needle cover, to ensure integrity and sterility of the system.

The blood bags are manufactured using transparent PVC, almost colourless (to allow visual inspection of the product) which is flexible and fitted with holes for easy suspension of the bags. The integral tubing is flexible but kink resistant. Minimum length of tubing from the primary bag to the needle should be 80cm, but can be manufactured to customer specification.

Primary anticoagulant ingredients in CPD have the following functions:
Citrate: acts as an anticoagulant by chelating calcium.
Dextrose: needed for metabolism of stored red blood cells.
Phosphate: maintains an alkaline pH and helps to maintain 2,3 DPG levels.

Additives in the secondary solution contain combinations of saline, adenine, glucose and manitol (SAGM), providing extended shelf life of RBC up to 42 days, and increased functional viability, and increases functional viability of red blood cells.
Alternative options are the addition of a sampling pouch within the blood collection tubing line, to take testing samples directly from the donation site.

Triple bags are also supplied in a top and bottom system, with the same anticoagulants for the purpose of processing buffy coat platelet concentrates, which provide a more concentrated product.
