  • Description

The antisera for extended phenotype, also known as “rare”, are used to determine the presence of antigens other than ABO/RH1 and RH. Available in a wide range of monoclonal rare antisera, of IgM, IgG and polyclonal type. A wide selection of rare liquid antisera for red cell typing/phenotyping, are available for use using conventional serology techniques, such as tubes, microplates, plates, and slides.

Blood Grouping Reagents are used to determine the presence, or absence, of rare antigens on human red blood cells.

Rare antisera are used by blood banks and reference laboratories to confirm the presence of specific antigens on donors’ or patients’ red blood cells, helping to ensure the right blood is given to the right patient, thus avoiding significant transfusion reactions.

The range of rare antisera include: Anti-k, Anti-M, Anti-N, Anti- Lea, Anti-Leb, Anti-Lub; Anti S, Anti-s, Anti-Fya, Anti-Fyb, and Anti-K.

Antibodies to the M and N antigens are usually of the IgM class, and appear as saline reactive or cold agglutinins. However, in rare cases, an IgG anti-M or -N may cause hemolytic disease of the foetus and new-born (HDFN) and hemolytic transfusion reactions (HTR). The complex system of the MNS system consists of over 40 antigens, carried on two glycophorin molecules. M, N, S, s, and U antigens are the most important antigens of the MNS system regarding transfusion medicine.

Rare antisera are sullied in either 1ml or 3ml volumes, and are sold individually.
